The Who and the Why of Tenderhearted Yoga

If you had asked me five years ago if I anticipated building a website, writing this blog, and leading studios full of people through yoga practices I would have probably cringed. I am an introvert through and through, and did not approach my 200-hour yoga teacher training with any intention of teaching- but rather to bring more depth and intention to the personal practice I had been building.

Then, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the world came to a stop. My work as an advocate for an anti-hunger organization felt more and more difficult, and in the midst of that helplessness I clung to yoga as a source of refuge and comfort. It was a deep desire to share that shelter with others that lead me to teaching- first virtually, and eventually in-person as studios and shared spaces began to reopen. Three years later, here we are.

Why “tenderhearted”? Since I was a small child, I’ve had a soft heart and big feelings. Thirty-something years later, I am (finally) accepting and even celebrating that sensitivity as a superpower, rather than something embarrassing or shameful. As a teacher, I will always show up as my authentic, messy, big-hearted self… and I invite my students to do the same. Thanks for being here.
